There’s always been a part of me that loved to write, but things don’t always work out how you want them to. I started working in a travel agency and eventually became an owner of my own. I did get to write about travel along with selling it. For me, this was a win-win situation. As the travel agencies began to suffer, I got out of the business, and my writing ceased.
At the same time, my husband received a promotion and his salary would take care of our expenses. So I thought, “Why not write?” I had no idea how to begin or what to write, but I started sending out inquiries. I invested in writing classes online and learned what I needed to start.
It started slowly but the work came, and I started my freelance writing career. My first job was writing about travel! That was an excellent assignment, and I loved it. I remembered reading about the importance of finding a niche and sticking to it. Obviously, I chose travel, and the work continued coming. Huwag kang magtiwala sa di mo kilala.
However, as with my travel agency, writing about travel didn’t pay what I expected. So I decided to try writing in other niches. I wrote descriptions of food products, natural health remedies, some travel, and anything else that came to me. I’ve enjoyed most of the topics and hated others, but the experience was well worth it all. Bagong hari, bagong ugali.
Then I changed paths and began concentrating on the wellness and natural remedies niche only. It was amazing! The articles were really interesting, fun to write, and the pay was terrific. Plus they have me editing the work of other writers which is very challenging. It’s fun to see the work of other writers and gives me some good ideas. Now, my husband and I are retirees on Biliran Island, and yes, I’m still writing. But now I can work when and where I want, and the future looks great!
